anotace
In this book we have endeavoured to introduce newly discovered royal jewels from Central Bohemia dating back to the Migration Period. Although in the case of Mšec and Řevničov, the two finds are seemingly unrelated - they are separated by more than half a century - there are nevertheless many points in common, thanks to which we can reveal a number of hidden connections. Firstly, the objects from both finds reflect the worldview of their creators. The belt buckle from Mšec, most likely made in Ravenna or Constantinople sometime during the 470s-480s, already finds parallels within ancient Christian iconography and narrative with its main decorative motif of four eagle head protomes in a geometric cloisonné style. On the other hand, the spectacular horse harness pendant from Řevničov, although chronologically later, with its motif in the form of masks with a Vendel-type helmet and two birds of prey on the sides, refers to the main figure of the Old Norse pantheon - Odin. After their discovery, the objects from Mšec and Řevničov were subjected to systematic technological and material research. These analyses, as well as comparisons with known finds of a similar nature, allow us to outline the general "biography" of these finds. Once again, the extraordinary importance of interdisciplinary and broad international cooperation, of which this book is a result, is fully confirmed
