This book presents nineteen essays in which the scholar addresses issues of modern Czech, and partially also world historiography over an extensive period of time, spanning from the early 19th century to the beginning of the 21st century. This unconventional exposition features prominent figures of Czech historiography (František Palacký, Václav Vladivoj Tomek, Zikmund Winter, Jaroslav Goll, Zdeněk Nejedlý and Josef Macek), and follows the paths scholarly historiography and school history classes have taken following November 1989. These revised and updated essays are set in the framework of critical reflections on postmodern challenges, in particular on the work of Hayden White.
